Welcome to our last newsletter of 2024, and our final big push for our collective festive rictus grin. We all love Christmas here, but this year we seem to have somehow found ourselves owning a shop, so it’s a different kettle of fish.
It’s Gary here from Grinning Soul, eyes flickering with the flashbacks of all those years I used to work behind bars in pubs and clubs through my teens and twenties. Anyone who’s ever done it knows the smell of napalm.
But this isn’t the same thing. We’re here to nourish the soul rather than provide the fuel for office Christmas party scandals. Black Friday used to mean once-a-year drinkers clogging up the bar ordering sixteen Bacardis and coke… now it means we have to give our stock away for free online. I’m not sure which I prefer.
But at Grinning Soul we have been standing firm, and so far we’ve had a very enjoyable time in the shop. Today, though, (Friday 20th) it might all come to a head, as today’ the day we have our Christmas party.
Will we see you there? I hope so.
There will be music, and for one night only, we have a pop-up bar selling, amongst other things, our delicious homemade mulled cider.
In the meantime, don’t forget we have some stocking fillers (t-shirts, tote bags, classic and collectable 7 inch single etc.) as well as Grinning Soul gift tokens.
And if you’re looking for some Christmas inspiration, here’s our selection of our favourite Christmas-themed records we have in the shop, in our latest Grinning Soul recommends blog.

Is it even really Christmas without the Ronettes, Mariah Carey, and Diana Krall?
Well, just in case you can’t make it to the party, here’s a little taster of a Christmas playlist that will definitely be pushed aside for more raucous stuff quite early on.
Other than than, hope to see you in the shop.
We’ll be open all weekend (Friday 20, Saturday 21, Sunday 22) and we’ll be open on the Monday, so come see us.
Merry Christmas from all of us at Grinning Soul.
